Landing page redesign research

Research and UX report to enhance UX through improved landing page.

OVERVIEW

My team was tasked with designing and prototyping a new landing page for a developer tool. Initially, the focus was on creating a visually appealing and user-friendly page. However, through stakeholder interviews and deeper investigation, we identified that the core issue was the lack of a centralized, accessible source of information for developers. We found that while such a page existed, it did not meet its intended purpose. We expanded our scope to improve the content and leverage existing resources to better assist developers in finding answers and resolving issues efficiently.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The primary issue was the absence of a centralized, effective information source for developers. While a landing page existed, it failed to meet the goal of providing developers with easy access to relevant information. Our task was to either design a new landing page or enhance the existing one to ensure developers could quickly and efficiently find answers and resolve issues.

MY ROLE

I conducted interviews with developers and users of the content within the project's scope. Additionally, I provided mentoring to one of the developers in the project team who expressed interest in participating in the research process, guiding him in the role of a researcher. I actively contributed to the final presentation by structuring proposals and drawing conclusions. By actively involving a developer in the research process, I fostered a collaborative approach and promoted knowledge sharing within the team. These findings were then presented to the stakeholders of the main project.

RESULTS

In the final report, all interview responses were compiled in a cohesive manner to showcase trends, shared experiences, and the emerging questions that arose from the gathered information. To arrive at this summary, an affinity diagram was created using the input from developers, allowing for a clearer understanding of the areas of interest.

To guide stakeholders towards an action plan, various options for addressing the problem were presented, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages in terms of resources, technology, and communication efforts required to change existing practices. The greatest achievement of this research was the discovery of cost-effective alternatives that could effectively resolve the problem without the need for developing a new landing page or introducing new tools into the developers' ecosystem.
