Microsoft Azure - UX Research

Analyzing the impact of Azure policy changes on developer workflow and formulating effective solutions.

OVERVIEW

The objective of this study was to understand how changes in Azure policies impacted the developers' experience in their day-to-day work. The aim was to define an action plan that could effectively address operational issues. To achieve this, relevant information from teams, such as operational metrics and research conducted by other teams to gather similar insights, were made available.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The existing process for managing technology projects lacked clarity and efficiency, as identified through initial research and interviews with developers. The framework and characteristics of the problem were not well-defined, leading to inconsistent experiences, roadblocks, and challenges. The lack of alignment among stakeholders and unclear objectives further complicated the process. This required a comprehensive analysis to uncover underlying issues and discrepancies, ultimately identifying key areas for improvement and the need for a more structured action plan.

MY ROLE

My role was to conduct research, identify the problem, establish the objectives, and determine the necessary activities to achieve a result that would facilitate the management of a subsequent action plan. Initially, I identified the framework of the problem and its characteristics after studying and becoming familiar with the process, its users, and relevant third parties. Having understood the process and its characteristics, I reached out to developers working with this technology to conduct interviews about their experience, roadblocks, and challenges they encountered in the process. With the input gathered from these interviews, I was able to create a list of points on which they agreed and others where there were discrepancies, aiming to understand the underlying differences and the reasons behind them. This analysis helped to uncover valuable insights and identify key areas for improvement and further exploration.

RESULTS

All the collected information, along with its conclusions, was consolidated in a visual and simplified manner to be presented to the stakeholders. The proposal included three main areas of improvement where management could begin working without the need for extensive development or additional costs. This approach aimed to provide actionable recommendations that could be implemented effectively to address the identified issues and enhance the overall operation.
